Do You Fear The Lord?
Do you fear the Lord?
Written by Michaela Lee
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
Matthew 14:22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and “cried out in fear.”
27But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
28"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."
29"Come," he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!
Hallelujah, in the mist of his fear Peter had a miracle he walked on water. Just because your afraid does not mean God does not see. In Mark’s account of the story chapter 6 vs 48 “He (Jesus) saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. When I’m afraid it feels as if my walk is strained everything is against me but if we will trust and believe we might be in a position to walk on water.
Look also at the fact that they were doing what Jesus had told them to do. “Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side..” Fear in the unknown can actually be the beginning of knowledge if we know the “ONE” we are to fear.
Are you doing what the Lord has for you to do in this season of life? Are you afraid, 27But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
One last thought Peter took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink. I can not help to wonder if he had not began to sink if he would have experienced the the saving grace of our Lord. You and I may not walk perfectly but all we have to do is ask and we will be saved.
